Industrial-Style Shower Remodel Along the Marietta Street Artery
This shower remodel was in a live-work loft in a converted warehouse building along the Marietta Street Artery. The existing bathroom had been roughed in during the building conversion but never tiled, with bare cement board walls and a pre-sloped shower pan in place. This made the installation more straightforward than a full demo job, since the waterproofing layer just needed to be verified and extended across the shower floor membrane seams before tile was set.
The tile choice suits the building's industrial character: a gray stone-look porcelain in a 2x4 elongated format, set in a herringbone pattern on the walls and large-format gray tile on the floor outside the shower. The vanity cabinet is dark gray, which informed the decision to use a medium charcoal sanded grout rather than a lighter color that would have softened the contrast. The herringbone pattern on the shower walls was anchored at the centerline of the rain head location above, so the pattern reads as intentionally centered when standing in the shower.

What we did
Inspected existing pre-sloped pan and cement board, extended waterproof membrane across seams and onto bathroom floor.
Anchored herringbone centerline to rain head position above for intentional visual alignment.
Set herringbone wall tile from center out, large-format floor tile in running bond outside the shower.
Applied medium charcoal sanded grout to complement the industrial dark vanity and matte black fixtures.
