Who we are

Craft Over Volume

Atlanta Tile Contractor is a small, focused crew working exclusively in Atlanta's Westside and Midtown neighborhoods. We take on the number of jobs we can do well, not the most jobs possible.

Every installation begins with substrate evaluation. We assess what is underneath before anything goes on top, because tile failures almost always start there. That discipline is what keeps our work looking right years later.

We serve homeowners, property managers, and commercial tenants across Westside, Midtown Atlanta, and the Marietta Street Artery. Same crew, same standards, regardless of project size.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us

How long does a typical tile installation take?

A standard bathroom floor runs one to two days for setting, then another day for grouting after the mortar cures. A full shower surround with waterproofing membrane typically spans three to four days. Kitchen backsplashes are often done in a single day. These timelines assume the substrate is sound and no demolition is needed.

Do I need to remove my existing tile before you start?

Not necessarily. We assess whether the existing surface is stable enough to tile over, which saves cost and debris disposal. In wet areas like showers, we almost always recommend removing old tile to inspect for moisture damage and apply a fresh waterproof membrane underneath.

What is the difference between sanded and unsanded grout?

Unsanded grout is used for joints under 1/8 inch wide. It is also the right choice for polished marble and glass tile where sanded grout would scratch the surface. Sanded grout contains fine aggregate for strength in wider joints, and it resists cracking better in high-traffic floor applications. We select the appropriate type based on your tile choice and joint width.

Can tile be installed over a wood subfloor?

Yes, with the right preparation. Wood deflects under load, and tile does not flex. We typically install a layer of cement backer board or use a crack-isolation membrane over the plywood to decouple the tile from subfloor movement. In older Atlanta homes with thinner subfloor assemblies, we may also add a layer of 1/4-inch backer to bring the system up to spec.

Do you handle the grout sealing after installation?

We apply a penetrating sealer to porous grout joints as part of our standard finish process. This is done after the grout has cured fully, typically 48 to 72 hours after application. Sealing reduces staining and moisture absorption, which matters especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

Do you work in condos and multi-unit buildings?

We work regularly in Midtown Atlanta condos and mixed-use buildings. This includes coordinating freight elevator reservations, adhering to building noise ordinances, and using low-VOC adhesives where required by building management. We request building access requirements from you before the job begins so there are no delays.
