Gray Herringbone Shower Remodel in Midtown Atlanta Townhome
This walk-in shower remodel in a Midtown Atlanta townhome replaced a failing fiberglass shower pan and deteriorating tile surround with a full custom shower installation. The tile is a gray porcelain in a 2x8 elongated subway format, set in a herringbone pattern on the shower walls. The shower floor uses 2x2 gray mosaic tile for slip resistance, with the same gray tonality as the walls to keep the palette cohesive.
Before any tile was set, we removed the existing fiberglass pan and inspected the framing underneath. There was minor moisture staining at the base of one wall, which we addressed by replacing the affected backer board and applying Laticrete Hydro Ban liquid waterproof membrane to the full shower area, including 6 inches onto the bathroom floor outside the shower threshold. The herringbone pattern on the walls was centered on the shower niche opening, which sits at eye level on the back wall, creating a visual anchor for the pattern.
